What Lives on This Site

Fauna is a collection of animal quizzes, each one playable on its own page. There are species pages — whales, snakes, horses, and more — where the questions stay close to the animal itself: how it moves, senses, feeds, and raises its young. There are breed quizzes for dogs and cats, built around where the breeds actually came from. There is a sounds quiz, for anyone who wants to match a call to the creature that makes it, and a dinosaur quiz for the animals nobody alive has ever seen.

Where Every Answer Comes From

Each quiz draws on one dataset, and that dataset was filled in twice. Two authors worked independently against the same fixed keys — a question catalog plus structured tables of animal classes, baby-animal names, collective nouns, breed origins, and animal sounds. When the two copies were compared value by value, 194 of 196 keys agreed. The two that did not — the tallest dog breed and the Poodle’s country of origin — were dropped entirely, because a fact two careful people cannot agree on makes a rotten multiple-choice question. The site also skips facts that rot on their own: no conservation statuses that get revised yearly, no records that change hands.
