Fauna

Shark Quiz

This shark quiz asks seven questions about how sharks are built, how they sense the world, and which of them outgrows the rest. Straightforward shark trivia, playable in the page.

Inside the seven questions

Sharks are a case where the popular picture and the working animal part ways, and this quiz lives in that gap. Its seven questions follow three threads: what a shark’s skeleton is made of, the senses a shark hunts and navigates by, and the matter of size — including which shark stands as the biggest of them all. Each thread is the kind of thing people half-remember from documentaries; the questions ask for the whole of it, with four options waiting to sort the sure from the almost-sure.

The checking behind the answer key

Fauna does not source its shark trivia from a single writer’s memory. The full dataset behind the site was entered twice, by two authors working independently against the same fixed keys — a question catalog plus structured reference tables — and then compared value by value. Agreement ran to 194 of the 196 keys. The two facts the authors could not settle were judged contested and cut from the site entirely, because a question with an arguable answer is a bad question. The site also refuses facts that expire, so nothing here depends on a status that gets revised or a record due to change hands.
