Fauna

Guess the Animal

Guess the animal from a short description of its traits — twenty rounds, four names offered each time, with baby-animal names mixed in.

Twenty Rounds of Description

This quiz runs 20 questions. Most hand you an animal described by its traits — how it moves, what it eats, where it lives — and offer four names, only one of which fits the description. Mixed in are rounds on baby-animal names, the particular words English reserves for the young of particular species. The clues do the work; your job is to read them.

Two Authors, One Answer Key

Every answer in this quiz was written down twice before it was trusted once. Two authors filled in the same fixed set of keys independently — a question catalog plus structured tables covering animal classes, baby-animal names, and more — and the two versions were then compared value by value. Of 196 keys, 194 matched exactly. The two facts the authors could not agree on were not argued over; they were thrown out. A contested fact makes a rotten quiz question, so on this site it never becomes one.
