What these six questions ask

Six questions, one flightless family. The themes are hemispheres, giant species, and winter eggs: which parts of the planet penguins actually occupy, what sets the largest species apart, and what happens when egg-laying meets the coldest months. Each question takes one of those threads and asks for something specific — the specifics being the quiz’s job, not this page’s.

Penguins attract half-remembered facts the way few animals do, which makes them a good subject for a round built on checked ones. Six questions go quickly, and the review at the end is where most of the surprises land.

Where each answer was checked

The same place as everything on Fauna: in two independent copies of the same dataset. Two authors filled in one shared catalog of questions and structured tables without seeing each other’s work, and the results were compared value by value. Of 196 keys, 194 matched. The two facts the authors disagreed on were cut from the site rather than scored — neither concerned penguins — on the grounds that a fact two careful writers dispute makes a rotten quiz answer. Facts with short shelf lives, like conservation statuses that get revised every year, are excluded on principle.

How play works

Every question presents four options. Choose one and the verdict comes back instantly, with the correct answer shown either way, so even a wrong guess leaves you holding the right one.
